What types of Starbucks Card have bar or QR code?Typically, special shaped Starbucks Cards and mini cards with intricate details (ex. upcoming Holiday Mini Card) are the ones with bar/QR code due to the card size and to facilitate the transactions. A barcode is a machine-readable optical label, represented by parallel lines with varying widths and spacings, that contains information about the item to which it is attached. A QR code is a type of barcode with two-dimensional patterns, consisting of square dots arranged in a square grid on a white background.
How often will Starbucks have designs with bar/QR code?We are not able to determine the frequency of offering a Starbucks Card with bar/QR code since most Starbucks Cards are designed by the global studio in Seattle. We are only informed of the design/s until they are offered for a specific promotion. With the availability of scanners at our stores, you can expect more designs with barcodes. Stay tuned!
Will Starbucks Cards with barcodes have a higher activation amount than regular Cards? Not necessarily. The minimum activation amount is based on the finish of the design and not on the way it is accessed (i.e., via barcode, QR code, magnetic stripe, etc.)
How do I activate and use a Starbucks Card with bar/QR code?A Starbucks Card with bar/QR code works the same way as your Card with magnetic stripe. You can activate a Starbucks Card at any Starbucks store in the Philippines with the initial minimum load required depending on the card type. At every purchase using your Starbucks Card with bar/QR code, you will be asked by a Partner to scan the Card yourself using the barcode scanner in the POS area as added security. The scanner will signal a red flash and a beep as soon as data on the Starbucks Card has been captured.
